faq / how it works
Browse the collection until you find the piece(s) you need. Select the size and variations you require, and place your order.
In your confirmation email, you will receive instructions on taking your measurements – seven body measurements for your custom garment (unless you bought the hat or tote!). Accuracy is key; wear the garment(s) you plan on wearing underneath your new piece, and take your measurements with a flexible tape measure; alternatively, have a seamstress take them for you. Kelly will write you back with your detailed invoice and shipping date.
This is a limited edition collection. Remember, if you have any questions or special accommodations, Kelly is always available via email. Each piece is made one at a time, and each client is treated with great care.
about / our story
This story starts with a new mama, and her little baby.
There’s a joke going around online that if you don’t want people aggressively gendering your infant, you should dress them in tiny Halloween costumes instead of “boy” or “girl” clothing.
Well, that’s kind of what I did! And I guess we just never stopped.
At first all the little creature outfits I made our oldest child Phoenix (also known as Beeps) – and later, their younger brother Nels – were for me – for my own gratification. But as the children got older they wanted a say, of course. And over the years I made up so many things for them and their wee friends, thousands of pieces, each hand-made and each more fun than the last. Creativity flowed through the household all year round and pretty soon it flowed beyond to clients outside the home.
By the time I knew I wanted to launch a capsule line of casual wear – an ethical, sustainable, and size-inclusive collection – I knew I wanted my children involved. By now, our oldest was pretty grown: Beeps was 17, had their college degree, and was working as a graphic artist in their own right.
So the two of us sat down in the studio and sketched; we shopped for fabrics and paged through swatches and shared color palettes. We talked about design lines and lining prints and deep pockets while doing the dishes, or making a coffee run.
Every step of the way we have worked side by side, and now – on the September Equinox of 2019 – our line is here!
Our line is:
1. INCLUSIVE. You no longer have to wonder if something comes in your size. It does. Yes, really. Size newborn to 6x and beyond! And there is no plus size upcharge! There is also no quality degredation in the larger sizes. Plus size customers have too long been underserved and unappreciated.
2. ETHICAL. We credit artists for print design, I pay local contractors a living wage (not a minimum one!), and I use materials that cause the least amount of harm to people, animals, and our planet. Focusing on these bottom lines has helped our business, not hindered it.
3. SUSTAINABLE. Fast-fashion can be monstrous to the people it “employs” – and to the planet as well. For instance: fast fashion wastes about 15% of the fabric it buys! In contrast, I’m at about 1% (yes, I’ve measured)! I use vintage equipment (so many machines are landfilled every year!), packaging that is post-consumer recycle and recyclable in turn, and upcycled or precycled materials and biodegradable ones where possible.
My models Autumn, Keely, Krys, Maura, Nels, Nikki, Oscar, Phoenix, Ruby and Tai have my absolute gratitude. Thank you Alder Creative for your photography work. Additional photography: Kelly Hogaboom, Nels Hogaboom, and Phoenix Hogaboom.
